About Me
Welcome to my new website. Although writing has been a major part of my life only in recent months have I decided to direct this experience into freelance writing.
I took early retirement from my Senior Executive role at the Yorkshire and Humberside Regional Development Agency (RDA) in June 2005 intent on following a number of personal interests. In October 2005 the devastating Kashmir earthquake claimed up to 90,000 lives and left three million homeless. Much of my time since then has been spent working to help victims in a remote mountain area centred on the village of Noon Bagla, firstly as Director of the AHS Foundation and latterly as Director of the Kashmir Community Fund (www.kecf.co.uk).
My work here has included drafting Business Plans and Newsletters, fundraising, negotiating with senior Government officials in Pakistan, developing projects and establishing local community groups in Kashmir.

My first job at the RDA was Head of Community Regeneration where I was instrumental in developing and establishing several local and sub-regional partnerships as well as overseeing the Region's very successful, multi-million pound Single Regeneration Budget. I also had responsibility for drafting Development Plans, Regional and Sub-Regional Strategies and for vetting Bid and Grant applications. My early career was spent in the Civil Service in Whitehall which included three years as Ministers' Principal Private Secretary. During this time I visited North America and several European countries on Ministerial business, including Council of Europe and European Union meetings, and was responsible for drafting numerous Ministerial speeches, official documents, letters, briefing notes and reports.
In the early 1980's I spent a great deal of time abroad particularly in Asia and Australia, where I lived and worked for two years, compiling an extensive travel diary. On returning to the UK I worked in Housing, Regeneration and Town Planning in London before moving to Yorkshire where I now live.
I hope to complete the draft of my first book within the next three months.
Please read this developing website and contact me if you think my experience can help you or your business....
